So far, you’ve come to understand your early childhood programming and the “imprints” it has shaped you with. These imprints act as a veil through which you see and experience the world around you including yourself. In my work, I would suggest that this veiled perception is what is commonly referred to as Ego, Your ego is the conscious mind, the part of you that you consider your identity or your “self.” I want to say here that Ego is generally shunned in inner work, or labelled as being bad or wrong in spiritual communities, and neither of those is true. It is simply a consciousness that we are conditioned into from childhood- hence our imprints- that is fear based, limited and therefore a false representation of the totality of who we are. You Ego has also served you throughout your life to help you establish some core skills as a human such as survival, self esteem, and self confidence. Once upon a time, humans believed the world was flat, and just like this completely innocent and yet misguided belief, each of us reaches the edge of our misperception to find ourselves longing for a deeper meaning, a more evolved explanation of creation and our role in it. This inner longing for meaning is the seedling of an awareness that has the potential to liberate us from Ego.
